The city regulates how closely certain sexual offenders can be to schools, parks, and day care centers; this is called the proximity ordinance. See GBMC 27.621 of Municipal Code Chapter 27 Public Peace and Good Order. Offenders are exempt from the proximity ordinance for certain listed reasons, but there is no appeals board.
The city also regulates how closely certain sexual offenders can reside to schools, parks, and day care centers; this is called the residency ordinance. See GBMC 27.622 of Municipal Code Chapter 27 Public Peace and Good Order.
Offenders are exempt from the residency ordinance for certain listed reasons, including the ability to seek an exemption from the Sexual Offender Residence Board. An offender wishing to seek an exemption from the board must submit a Sex Offender Residence Board Appeal Form (PDF) with the City Clerk’s Office.
