Public Programs
The Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) offers a variety of nature-related public programs. Many of these programs are free and open to our visitors. To see what's happening today, please view the Calendar.
Programs may require pre-registration and be subject to minimum and maximum enrollment limits. Some programs are weather dependent.
WLS staff reserves the right to cancel a program if the minimum enrollment has not been met by the registration deadline. If you need to cancel your enrollment in a program please notify us as soon as possible. Please help us to ensure the success of our programs by registering by the deadline. Thank You!

Summer is a time of adventure and fun for children. We go outside and hike, play games, do craft projects and incorporate live animals in the program. View 2022 Camp Brochure (PDF) for information.
All Camps
- Times: Monday through Thursday 9 to 11:30 am or 12:30 to 3 pm

Don't miss the chance to watch our pack of wolves get fed. Our staff has helped care for these resident wolves from wolf pups to full-grown adults. The best view of this free program is from inside or outside the Woodland Building wolf viewing area.

Geared toward ages 3-5. Each program includes a story and is enhanced with a variety of activities such as live animal visit, craft project, or outdoor walk. Space is limited, and Registration is required at this time; call 920-391-3671.

Learn about the wild felines that call the Wildlife Sanctuary home.

Blue Jays, crows and ravens are all in the corvid family. The program gives you a chance to better understand these bird brains!

A chance to observe the training and enrichment done with our exhibit foxes. Staff will be available to answer questions.

In this program, you'll learn all about either shorebirds and waterfowl or about songbirds. Ask questions and learn more about our feathered friends!

Join us for free at the Woodland Building Otter Exhibit to watch the training and enrichment activities that our staff performs with these playful creatures.

Meet a variety of the ambassdor animals that live onsite at the wildlife sanctuary and have a chance to ask our staff questions about them.

Come and learn about the bats in Wisconsin and in your neighborhood and then we'll take a walk on the trail with a bat detector to look for bats! Please call ahead to register at 920-391-3671, as space is limited for this program.

Practice the principles of Tai Chi while harnessing the openness the full moon offers in an energetic flow. No prior experience required; this event is open to adults and children ages 15 and up with adult supervision. Instructor, Eric Peters, gives an informative talk before each class.

Spring & Fall Birding Walks
Bay Area Bird Club members lead birding walks at the Wildlife Sanctuary. Bring your own binoculars and a field guide. Some binoculars will be available for use. Please check main calendar for any weather notices!

- Location: Meet in the parking lot by the fishing docks/residence

Walk for fitness on the Sanctuary trail system led by a Sanctuary naturalist. We will walk for approximately 45 minutes at a brisk pace. Some terrain is uneven and not paved. You are welcome to bring your pedometer. Show up as often as you'd like!

Snowshoe hikes for age 5 and above. Snowshoes are provided or you're welcome to bring your own. Participants should wear flat-bottomed boots and come dressed to be outside for about an hour. Space is limited. First come, first serve.
- Dates/Times: Tuesdays in January, February, March 2022; 10:30 am January 17 at 12 pm. OR 1:30 pm, and February 16 and March 17 at 6 pm.

- Note: Snowshoe Hikes are snow conditions and weather dependent. Snowshoe rental included in cost.
The Sanctuary has classically groomed ski trails. Grab your skis and take a turn on our trails on a winter night. For the night ski, trails will be groomed and lighted until 8 pm. Ski trails are also open 8 am to 4:30 pm daily, conditions permitting. We do not provide or rent skis.
Ski & Tea
Must have own skis. Join a naturalist on our ski trail for about 60 minutes. Afterwards, come back to warm up with a hot beverage and some treats.

Night Ski
Candlelit ski trail by the Nature Center. Campfire for s'mores and hot chocolate! For the night ski, trails will be groomed and lighted until 8 pm.

- Note: Skiing is conditions and weather dependent. Participants must provide own skis.
Walk with a Naturalist on our site to look and listen for owls. A live owl ambassador will make an appearance. Participants must dress for outdoors and are welcome to bring a flashlight.

We have lots of resident animals so we decided to throw one big birthday animal party. Enjoy party games, cake, and wish our live critters a happy birthday. Program is geared for kids 8 and under.

The Rehabilitation Program at the Wildlife Sanctuary (R-PAWS) holds their annual beginner training session for people 18 years or older who are interested in learning about wildlife rehabilitation. Become a rehab volunteer and be trained to help take care of injured and orphaned wild animals that come in every year. There is no obligation by attending this training.
