Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association
What
is the Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective
Association?
The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association is a fraternal organization made of active and retired sworn law enforcement officers of the Green Bay Police Department. The organization was created to establish off duty activity and camaraderie within the police workforce and to promote charity and good will within the community.
The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association is not a part of the police department. It is a nonprofit fraternal organization that operates outside the table of organization of the police department. The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association is recognized by the police department as a formal and official social organization for its sworn members. Membership in the organization is voluntary, with the members paying dues.
The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association is registered as a nonprofit organization with the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing, and with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.
What does the Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective
Association do?
The mission of the Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association is to establish social camaraderie within the police organization and to establish charity and good will in the community by reaching out with community involvement.
Various social activities and functions are held throughout the year for the members. Examples of the activities include an annual retirement dinner that honors the careers of the officers that retired that year. Traditionally, a family picnic was held every summer at Bay Beach Park. Last year that was changed to an evening at a Green Bay Bull Frogs baseball game, which was preceded by a picnic at the ballpark. There is also an annual children’s Christmas party.
Benefits include assistance with some medical expenses for officers and flowers or memorials being sent to funerals of officers and family members.
The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association reaches out to the community through charitable contributions. Examples of charities supported in recent years include college scholarships for local students, Green Bay Babe Ruth baseball, Special Olympics; Beja shrine Circus, St. Jude’s Hospital, Boys and Girls Club, Preble Parent Network, Preble Anti-Vandalism Program, and Southwest High Troyettes.
Fund Raising
The dues paid by the members are insufficient to support these activities and causes. Therefore various fund raising efforts are conducted. The most effective and efficient means of raising funds is a telemarketing campaign. A local telemarketing firm is hired to conduct the fundraiser. At the heart of the campaign are tickets for attendance at a Police vs. Packers basketball game held at the Southwest High gym. This is a good opportunity to see some of your Packers players outside the football experience.
The Green Bay Police Benevolent and Protective Association greatly appreciates the support it receives from the citizens and businesses of Green Bay and surrounding communities. The fundraiser began this year on February 04, 2008 and will run into the spring.
